From what I understand, the app that is now called Crosswords Classic is being abandoned and I have to use this app now. But all the puzzles I try to download say I have to "upgrade" even though I already paid for what they now call Crosswords Classic. And all the puzzle "sources" I paid for are gone. The NYT puzzles are nowhere to be seen. The version description said they had fixed this, but they havent. Yeah, the "upgrade" is only $3.99, but why should I have to pay for what I already paid for? And, for what? Crosswords was never that great, but this looks worse so far.

This app is pretty good, but it lacks polish, and have some frustrating interface quirks. Puzzle sync does not work for me at all, and it is frustrating.

Have iCloud enabled yet Im unable to pay $3.99 for Crosswords Pro despite owning Crosswords Classic -- I keep getting prompted to pay $9.99. On top of that, I echo many of the unfavorable reviews regarding lack of polish and some poor UI/UX issues. Im happy the developers have made the decision to adapt their app for iOS 7, but will be much happier when it meets an appropriate level of quality.

I paid for this upgrade but have gone back to using the old "classic" version. Too many bugs (crashes, missing grid lines), missing features (puzzle titles, erase all errors), buried basic functions to make difficult to find (show all errors). Very disappointing because this used to be the best crossword app.

Apparently it is not enough to charge for an upgrade? This app also displays ads (unless this is a bug?). And the app crashes and frequently locks up. I have returned to using the Classic version which was once also quite buggy, but is now fairly reliable - and does not display any ads.

The original Crosswords Classic is by far the best crossword app for iOS. This paid upgrade is missing many of the customization features of the original, has a very confusing interface, and the settings pane comes without any explanation of what any of the features do. I will admit that it looks prettier, but the whole thing feels rushed. To top it off, it crashes on my iPhone multiple times per session, with a near 100% crash rate trying to load up the puzzle info pane. Good luck trying to read the puzzle title or notes from inside the puzzle. The ability to see the clues in a list is an iPhone only "feature". Why on earth would you REMOVE a feature from the app when it runs on a larger screen which should handle it even easier? Its also possible to cheat the best time by solving the puzzle entirely in this clues-only mode, because the timer only runs when youre actively viewing the puzzle. This is a holdover from the classics app, and its how people are able to solve the NY Times Sunday puzzle in under 3 minutes. Dont worry, they arent just super smart. Save your money. Get the classic version and wait until this one is more mature. Much more mature.

So, this apps devs released this version to cash in on an iOS7 graphical update, while ostensibly leaving the old version for those that dont want iOS 7. Thats fine. Whatever. I dont mind paying for a nice, solid update. This is anything but. Graphical errors about, a tap-and-hold-for-hints system that doesnt really make sense (I only knew about it from reading the description, which is awful design), and an ugly puzzle layout (among other ugliness). Updating for the sake of iOS7 is alone is worthless. If youre going to milk another purchase out of your customers, make it worth our money. This is not even almost worth even the discounted price for owning the previous version. Stick with their "Classic" version, whether you own it already or not. This app is a big disappointment.

Addictive game and a treat for people who love to solve crossword puzzles.

After using the new app (after owning the Classic since iPad purchase), I must say the new interface takes time to get used too. It is sleek and modern, while the Classic shows what puzzles look like in the newspaper. I would give five stars if there was a way to hide Bundles in the all puzzle view. There is already a link at the bottom if I ever want bundles. Worth the price if you are a crossword addict. Update: the Bundles and other puzzles are collapsible in the All Puzzle view, hence, the five star review. Outstanding!

Great app with a smooth interface. If there was a way to hide the on-screen keyboard when Im using bluetooth, it would be 5 starts for sure. Other than that, its pretty much perfect.

Ive been a fan of this app for months. But, the new update locks up when entering the last letter. IPhone 5s/iOS 8.0.2.

I loved the app until this update. I have 5S phone and have not upgraded to iOS 8. Are you going to fix problem where it licks up when you finish a puzzle?

I really appreciate the update to a fresher look for the newer iOS. However, I am having a problem where, when I enter the last letter of a puzzle to solve it, the game is locking up and I am unable to finish it. This is with the newest version 3.51 on iOS 8.1 on an iPhone 6+. EDIT: Version 3.52 solved my issues! Turns out it had to do with being logged into my Game Center account. Thank you to StandAlone for the awesome customer service!

The pen/pencil switch and letter skipping functionalities are woefully inadequate. Theres neat new displays, but mostly Im disappointed I paid to move from Crosswords Lite. Perhaps Crosswords Classic is better, but why should I pay again---for a third app??? Stand Alone is evidently developing for more platforms than they can manage, and its frustrating to think Im paying to wait for bugs to be fixed.

Crosswords done right the design is really beautiful

This app is driving me nuts. Is the problem that it isnt for the iPad or what? When I have finished a puzzle, I cant get out of the screen. I tap everywhere and the puzzle just stays there. Very user unfriendly. Not just user unfriendly, user hostile.

Straightforward gameplay, good interface. So far so good with the puzzles -- solvable, no issues. Well done.

The old version — now "crosswords classic" — has a much better ui for my taste. I used this for a while, went back to the old one, and tossed this one.
